Acupuncture/Shenmen

Question
Hello Dr. O'Brien,

I have a 9 year old son diagnosed with ADHD when he was 3.  I never medicated him with ritalin.  Instead I have been teaching him to pay attention to his body signals using relaxation and redirection to help him regain control of his body.  Not always helpful.  I am now working with an acupuncture therapist who tapes a little metal bead behind my son's ear on a point called the Shenmen (doorway to the spirit).  In your opinion how might this help my son's worrying, lack of attention and hyperactivity?  Thank you for your time.

Answer
Hello Paula,

It depends on the acupuncture therapists thorough examination and diagnosis. Children with ADHD may also be helped with herbal formulas, dietary changes, and brushing techniques.  You may want to discuss the treatment/s with your acupuncturist.
