Acupuncture/acid reflux and acupuncture

Question
Hi Dr. O'Brien,

I am an opera singer with very severe acid reflux, so needless to say the
symptoms are hurting my voice and career. I have tried almost everything to
relieve the symptoms, to no effect, but I hear that acupuncture can cure
reflux. Is this true? If so, could you please recommend an acupuncture clinic
in Dallas, TX? Thank you, this is of so much help, as my reflux could
potentially ruin my career.

Much appreciated,

Rachael

Answer
Hello Rachael,

You may want to have a endoscopic exam to see exactly how much damage has been done.  Dietary changes are a must, eat at least two hours before bed, you may want to keep soda crackers and water next to your bed if you have problems when laying down.  Calcium supplements may help buffer the stomach acid.  Acupuncture may improve your symptoms too, I do not know anyone in Dallas, sorry.

Have a great day,
Dr. Brendon O'Brien D.C.
