Acupuncture/foot tendonitis

Question
I have seen an acupuncuturist and a well-known podiatrist
in NYC.  I have been treated often and helped with acupuncture for arthritis, etc.  I am a dancer and have tendonitis of the left foot (I do flamenco).  The podiatrist said that acupuncture would mask the tendonitis
and I could risk tearing a tendon when dancing.  He prescribed ice packs and a stretching exercise.  I have not
danced for a week and although the symptoms are better, they are still there (sensitivity). I am thinking of going
back to my acupuncturist (also my internist - he is a
Chinese doctor who also does acupuncture).  Does acupuncture actually heal the tendonitis or just the pain?
Pleas help - as a dancer it is very important to me and
I have to make a decision today.  Loretta

Answer
Hello Loretta,

Acupuncture can help reduce the muscle tension which is the cause of the problem (Keep going).  You should have orthotics for your feet that are semi-easy to flex.  The rigid orthotics will cause plastic deformation of the ligaments leading to fallin arches.

You may also want to incorporate a doctor of chiropractic who specializes in sport/soft tissue injuries.  They will work specifically on the areas of scar tissue/ adhesions to restore muscle function.  You may want to call around and ask what their treatment would be(make sure they do myofascial release or Active release techniques as you would benefit the most from these).

Keep stretching too,
