Acupuncture/Can it help?

Question
About 10 months ago I injured my Achilles tendon. Not realizing the nature and extent of my injury, I did nothing for several months until the pain became really bad. I finally went to an orthopedic surgeon who diagnosed it as a partial tear that had already healed (w/scar tissue & swelling).
Short of surgery (which would keep me off my feet for six weeks) he said the best thing to do is begin physical therapy. I did that and continued for three months (twice a week + stretching excercises and icing daily).
After a few follow-up visits to the doctor he prescribed anti-inflammatory (nabumetone)which i began taking about 2 mos ago. I finished the p.t. end of Sept and maintained the stretching and icing every (most) days.
Although after all this the my ankle feels somewhat better and the pain less consistent, there are enough times when the pain is as bad is as it ever was. I have been told this is a long process and that w/o surgery it may never completely heal.
Can accutpuncture help and if so, what can I expect? (I'm 55 yrs old and in pretty decent shape). Thnx much for your input

Answer
Hello Marv,

Not sure if I answered this question already, but you will want to find a doctor of chiropractice who specializes in myfascial injuries.  Often adhesions and scarring in the soft tissues will increase the pain on the achilles tendon.  Specialized muscle work can reduce the tension and speed recovery.  Also orthotics for your shoes are a very important part to take pressure off the achilles.

Thank you for question,
