Question
Hello!
I am a prospective student of oriental medicine in NY, and am considering my education choices.
I have researched as much as I could about acupuncture schools (i would go for a masters degree in oriental medicine with combines chinese herbology), but found almost nothing about the schools except their own websites.
My current top choices are the Tri State Institute, and Pacific College. Both *seem* to have excellent reputations.  Tri State I believe tries to have a more mentor based approach (they boast having a master staff, consisting partly of the director, Mark Seem who teaches his own style called APM, and Kiiko Matsumoto who teaches her own style of Japanese acupuncture), and tri state also seems to strongly support individuality in ones development, as well as teaching TCM. Wheras Pacific seems to give a very strong academic, albeit more 'traditional' approach into TCM - but they seem to be a very well received and better established institution.
Do you have any opinion as to which may provide a better career or heard anything positive or negative about either?
I was also told that the avg starting income for someone with a masters in oriental medicine was about $40k in NYC, and after 4-6 years should be nearer $100k (assuming all private practice).
I know you aren't based in NYC, but are you aware if these numbers seem accurate?

Any help/advice or leads you may have to help me make the best educated decision I can would be *SO* greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance for your time!

Answer
Hello Craig,

Sorry, but I do not know much about those schools.  Best way to find a school you like is:  One that has a similar style in which you want to practice (ex. more in depth herbology etc), strong business aspect if you are to go on your own.  Your numbers are right on for the expected salaries.  Private practice will take some time to build!

Wish I could help you out more, Good Luck!
