Addiction to Alcohol/alcoholism

Question
what is poor primary socialization?

Answer
Hello Sarah,
I am not sure how to answer this question because it is so broad. I am not an expert in sociology; so I will just give you a few thoughts from an addictions standpoint. Clearly there are many factors that contribute to the development of alcoholism. Environmental factors are implicated in the initiation of alcohol or drug use; genetics are considered important to the development of alcohol abuse or alcoholism. Environmental factors such as peers and family (socialization) can be protective of, or associated with, alcohol abuse. Strong family ties and prosocial activities with peers are examples of protective facors and are associated with less alcohol problems. Families disrupted by divorce, significant problems such as addiction, or family members with peer groups such as gangs, would be examples of environmental factors that are associated with development of alcohol and other drug abuse problems. If you care to narrow your question so I can be more specific in my answer, please do so.
