Addiction to Alcohol/Alcoholism

Question
My husband drinks 2- 3 glasses of wine (sometimes the whole bottle) at home about every other night.  He is non violent and very pleasant with a drink or without a drink.  Would he be classified as an closet alcoholic?

Answer
Hi Tina,

Thanks for writing All Experts.

A closet alcoholic is someone who hides alcohol and denies his drinking. I don't think that your husband meets that criteria, but he may be drinking a little too much.

There are some tests on my site that can help you: http://www.untwist-your-thinking.com/alcohol-abuse.html

Your husband may not be an alcoholic, but by doing these tests, it may give him motivation to cut back.

Hope this is helpful.
