Addiction to Alcohol/Staying sober, questions re:supplements and herbs

Question
I have been sober for 15 days now and need to keep this up. I am currently taking evening primrose oil for pms and would like to start trying other supplements and herbs but am having a hard time finding info on what to take together and what not to take together. For example, I would like to try GABA(Gamma Amino Butyric Acid) to help me relax at night or for stress during the day. I would also like to try 5HTP and sam-e. Not quite sure where to start and what I can mix or what else is on the market that can help me.
I am taking a B supplement because I came up with a vitamin B6, B12 and folic acid deficiancy a few years ago. Since I quit drinking I have also been taking extra calcium and magnesium but at seperate times and sometimes on differant days. Although my diet has been great nutritionally, I have been binging on chocolate and sugar. Thanks to your website I am going to look into glycerine. I have also just printed out "The serotonin connection and "The hypoglycemic diet" for myself to look over. I have not found help with my doctor, she has made it clear she is against these supplements. Thank you for your time and any information would be helpful at this point!

Answer
Hi Cassy,

Congratulations for having made a decision to stop drinking. This is not easy, because addiction is more of a biological disorder than a "psychological" illness. Well, conventional doctors are a bit outdated when it comes to the treatment of addiction.

If you want any professional advice please have a referral to a Nutritional Doctor, Clinical Nutritionist, Nutritional Psychologist. But the web site should help you beat addiction  without the help of a professional.
