Answer
Hi Justin,

Congratulations! Being sober for 8 1/2 months was not easy. But one of the hardest parts is what you're going through right now. When you're a heavy drinker, everyone around you is usually the same. You've changed, but they haven't. You're right about wanting to meet  sober people.

Going to AA meetings is one option. You can find the link at:

Here's where you can find meetings in your area. The members are not only supportive, but they can also become friends.

Also join activities in your free time: play sports, join the Y, take a course -  that type of thing. Since you're not drinking you should feel better physically and also have more energy to do more things.

By doing this, you're not only staying sober, you're also creating a sober lifestyle.

I hope this is helpful.

Experience

I have over 20 years experience working in the addiction field. My experience extends to all levels of substance abuse. I've worked in rehabs and detox centers, prisons and half-way houses and have a busy private practice as well as an active website where I can be reached for recovery coaching and consultation. I am a cognitive behavioral therapist, but 12-step programs are an excellent support. When working in the addiction field, there is no cookie-cutter solution. In the recovery field, you witness miracles. That's why I love what I do.
