Addiction to Alcohol - Coming OFF of Alchol

Question
While someone is detoxifing himself, is it common for them to get VERY edgy and say things that they normally wouldn't? If so, how should a spouse handle the different stages of detoxing?

Answer
Dear Dana

Detox from alcohol can be very painful. A spouse should be very grateful their spouse cares enough to stop. If the one detoxing says something that is inappropriate, the spouse may say "I understand you aren't feeling well but please don't take it out on me." You can also go to Alanon, which is a support group for those affected by addicts and alcoholics.
