Question
Hello, I have a loved one 33yrs old who maybe in the end stage of alcoholism.  I can't find any info on the net to indicate what the signs are that indicate your dying of alcoholism.  He's not drinking and trying to do all the dr's are telling him.  A few of his stats are Carbon dioxide is 17, billirubun 3.85, RBC 2.55, Amonia 112 he's not able to drain fluids, supposed to go next week to have fluids removed from left lung lining and stomach.  Is suffering from swelling, has permanent skin pigmentation loss all over his body.  Is weak, bloated hasn't drank in a month and a half, but did drink one of those bottles with a handle a day and showed no signs of having drank.  When he first went to dr's his blood alcohol was 325 which the dr said was 3x's the limit.  Even though he's doing what the dr's say, he's not healing very fast at all.  Is he in the end stage?  What are the signs your past a point of recovery?  Thanks  Deb

Answer
Dear Deborah,

I suppose that he is in good hands with the doctors. As a nutritional psychologist I am interested in the connection between nutrition and mood disorders, including alcoholism.

I can only refer you to some articles I have written for an understanding what alcoholism is all about. I consider it to be a disease in the literal sense of the word. Please read:
