Question QUESTION: Is there a reason my nausea and stomach pain are worse in the morning than later in the afternoon?
ANSWER: Hello Tera,
Thank you for your question.
Tera, it’s your body’s way of telling it can’t take any more alcohol. First reason being large amounts of alcohol can be toxic to the body (for example, the cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, or nervous systems). Second reason is due to inflammation of the stomach lining (called gastritis) - alcohol is toxic to the lining of the stomach and regular heavy drinkers often get stomach pains and vomiting due to this damage. Unhealthy eating and fatigue is also one of the reasons. When you wake up in the morning, after a heavy bout of drinking, the body needs to get rid of the excess amount of liquid in the body. Since alcohol is toxic to the body it irritates the stomach lining & the esophagus. Alcohol is a depressant, and, in large amounts, dulls the nerves that regulate one's breathing, heartbeat, and gag reflex. The gag reflex is what is responsible for allowing our bodies to vomit — to get rid of extra alcohol that it cannot process. It is also one of body’s defense mechanisms. Strictly speaking, your body makes you sick in an effort to protect to you from the toxic chemical. Alcohol poisoning is the reason for nausea and vomiting. In severe cases of alcohol poisoning a person becomes unconscious and go into coma.
Tera, if you are having regular symptoms of nausea and vomiting you need to see a doctor immediately. These symptoms occur in alcoholics and alcoholism is a disease and cannot be cured. It can only be arrested by total abstinence.
Tera, I hope you get well and sober soon. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.
God bless

QUESTION: Why when I am detoxing does my skin and breath give off a strange "fermented apple" smell and how can I or can I get rid of it
Answer Hello Tera,
While detox occurs, the body begins to expel and eliminate toxicity, whether it occurs naturally as a function of a strong immune system or whether the detox is brought on by some type of supplement which stimulates the systems of the body to let go of poison and move back toward a state of balance. Bad breath and skin odor are one of the symptoms of the healing crisis. This is a good thing as the symptoms indicate that the immune system is working properly, that toxins are being eliminated and that the body is working toward balance again. Usually, a healing crisis should last no more than three days.
One of the best ways to reduce skin odor is to take regular hot showers, 2 to 3 times a day, scrubbing the skin well, and buffing with a dry towel afterwards. Avoid colognes and perfumes. Another important factor is drinking enough water to help the kidneys, skin, liver, colon and spleen process waste. In particular, your skin and kidneys need lots of good, pure water to flush the toxins. Fresh parsley or a strong mint are often effective ways to fight temporary bad breath. Avoid smoking. I also suggest taking Vitamin B supplements.
