Addiction to Alcohol/removal of husband from home

Question
How can I get my husband to leave the home - just for a short period? I cannot stand him here any longer. He has just come out of a third period in an addiction clinic and was drinking within 24 hours. I come home and find him drunk in bed - that is how he spends his day. He refuses to leave; but I don't see why I should be the one to be forced out. We jointly own the home. He is not violent so I can't get him out for that. Please advice...I am desperate.

Answer
Hello Frances,
It is certainly painful and frustrating, and very exhausting emotionally for a woman in your situation. The question you ask is, however, probably for the most part a legal one that I cannot answer. I am an attorney but do not practice law. So, I suggest you seek the advice of an attorney as to your marital-household options. I do suggest that you seek support for yourself if you haven't already, in Al-Anon, the 12 Step Program for those in a relationship with an alcoholic: http://www.al-anon.alateen.org/ You can also find more information and professional help on my website. Good luck,
