Addiction to Alcohol/CDT test for alcoholism?

Question
Do you know anything about the CDT test for alcoholism? It's a bloood test. I recently had one for purposes of my custody dispute. My result was 'negative' but beyond that I don't know what my result means. The cut-off for heavy drinking in the test is CDT level of 2.2 or higher. I have been abstinent for 6 months and my result was 1.5, so it's clear to court that I haven't been abusing alcohol recently, but it would be nice if I could also say something like '1.5 is a result you would expect from a non-drinker' or something along those lines.
Also what exactly does 'negative predictive value' and positive predictive value' mean in interpretation of alcohol-related tests?
Thanks
Cathleen

Answer
Hi Cathleen,

All I know is that CDT is not a test for alcoholism and does not detect whether a patient is dependent on alcohol, but it can detect if a patient has consumed four to five alcoholic drinks at one time within the past two weeks.

If you have problems with alcoholism I suggest you read:
Why Alcoholics Drink? at
http://www.hypoglycemia.asn.au/articles/WAD.html

Alcoholism (Addiction) is a Treatable Disease at:

Drug Addiction is a Nutritional Disorder at:
http://www.hypoglycemia.asn.au/articles/drug_addictions_nutritional_disorder.htm...

I suggest that you contact a nutritional doctor or a chemist and get some clarification on this. Most alcoholic s are hypoglycemic and if you get treated for hypoglycemia (which is by nutritional means) you will recover fully from alcoholism.
