Addiction to Alcohol/How Long Alcohol Stays in One's System

Question
James, I read an answer you wrote that said alcohol stays in the system up to a year.  That shocked me.  I always hear that it's out in 3-10 days.  Can you explain in a little more detail why the discrepancy in what I hear is typical versus a year?

Thanks,
Barbara

Answer
Dear Barbara

Physically, it takes the body an average of one hour per oz of alcohol to metabolize alcohol. This is effected by body weight, food, metabolism and other factors. The mental and emotional effects of alcohol take far longer to leave the body.
