Addiction to Alcohol/addictive personality

Hello, thank you devoting your time to helping people.  My question is as follows, i have never been a drug addict and I don't like to be drunk, but I seem to have a somewhat " addictive personality. I have never tried hard drugs but things I have done I tend to stick with for instance in high school I went from nevrr trying marijuana to doing it very often ( quit after high school), I used to smoke ( quit 6 weeks ago aftrr my marriage, I also have asthma).from being slightly overweight to extreme dieting and excerise, still struggling with masturbation, and I like to have one drink every day and maybe 2 or 3 on the weekend, my main question is, does the drinking pose any type of risk? And is there something I can do to hrlp my extremist nature? I apologize for the length

Hi Charles,

Right now your drinking is under control and does not seem to present a problem. Keep an eye on it however, because you have a tendency to increase the consumption, which can lead to a problem in the future.

It would also be helpful to get counseling regarding the other issues. There may be anxiety issues that need to be addressed. Learning how to deal with stress/anxiety will change the nature of your behavior and give you more peace of mind.

I hope this information is helpful.

I can answer questions on all addictive behaviors: alcohol, drugs, food, compulsive sex, codependency, gambling, compulsive shoplifting etc.

I have over 20 years experience working in the addiction field. My experience extends to all levels of substance abuse. I've worked in rehabs and detox centers, prisons and half-way houses and have a busy private practice as well as an active website where I can be reached for recovery coaching and consultation. I am a cognitive behavioral therapist, but 12-step programs are an excellent support. When working in the addiction field, there is no cookie-cutter solution. In the recovery field, you witness miracles. That's why I love what I do.
