Question
I am over fifty, have grown kids, yet still react to life as a child of an alcoholic.  Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Kathy,

I do not exactly know what you mean by "react like a child of an alcoholic". It seems to indicate that you are not happy and that somehow this has something to do with you being a "child of an alcoholic".

As a  nutritional psychologist I believe that all our problems occur in the here-and-now, and that past experiences have little to do with our present-day "psychological" problems.

Please read:

Principles of Psychonutritional Therapy at;

If you parents were alcoholic, them it could be possible that you may have inherited some of the flaws in metabolism. For instance we know that alcoholics are hypoglycemic, and this is an inheritable illness. Thus you may feel emotionally unstable without being able to explain why.

I suggest that you test yourself with the NBI at:

The Nutrition-Behavior Inventory Questionnaire (NBI) at

If you score high, it could be that your present day unhappiness may be due to hypoglycemia. This can be treated by going on a Hypoglycemic Diet at

I hope I have been of some assistance.
