Question
I have finally accepted I am an alcoholic and ant to know if I can stop drinking without seeing a doctor.I drink on a bad day 2 litres of wine as each day is diferent but I am usually drunk every day. I am English and live in Turkey and am going to my first AA meeting today.
Gave up for 2 days 2 weeks ago and did not feel ill so what should I do re withdrawals.

Answer
Good morning Colette and thank you for your question. I am pleased to hear that you have decided to start attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

There are some people who do have withdrawals of a serious nature, for example; DT’s, seizures, and heart attack. I don’t know anything about you so I cannot comment on your overall health. If you have any question as to your health condition you should consider going to a detoxification clinic to help you with any bad effects from withdrawals. Talk to some of the AA people about it that you meet at the meeting you are attending.

As to H.O.W. AA works… you have already been "Honest" about needing help for your drinking problem… now all that you have to be "Open minded" , and "Willing" to work the recovery program. You will do yourself a big favor if you first do a few simple things get yourself a Female Sponsor to help guide you thru the program… Join a group and get active in it… Ask for help… Just keep your not drinking to “one day at a time”.

I wish you the very best in your recovery. Thank you Rebos
