Question My husband has many medical ailments. The one I am concerned about is his degenerative back in which he is taking vicodin, he has had 2 back surgeries in the past couple of years and has been taking the medication. He has terrible mood swings, feels he is above the law at times and thinks rules dont apply to him. It took a domestic violence arrest to get him into therapy. Besides the vicodin he takes prescription meds for chrohns disease, high blood pressure, chronic headaches, remicaid for rheumatory arthritis. Can the mxture of meds with the vicodin give him the same symptoms as a drug addict?? He says he throws up every morning and still has Dr. Jekyl and Mr. hyde personality even though the Dr. has prescribed the meds. I would like to try to help him through this. I have 3 young children that need their dad and at times he does not think clearly when he has them. And at times he is more of a friend to them than a parent. I need help!!!
Answer Dear kelli,
There is no doubt in my mind that the cocktail of medication is affecting his personality.
Vicodon is highly addictive and this certainly affects his personality. With the multiple ailments he is suffering from, it is my opinion that he should see a Nutritional Doctor or a Clinical Nutritionist. He should ask his doctor to be referred to these specialists.
There are alternatives to pain treatment and some have been outlined in:
I suspect that your husband is now addicted to vicodon and if so he needs to be treated for drug addiction. This cannot be done without his co-operation.
I suggest that you ask your doctor to have him referred to a Nutritional Doctor or a Clinical Nutritionist.
