Addiction to Drugs/Addicted?

Question
I have had a bad back for years.  I had an artificial disc implanted last year.  I recently had an injury that caused me to start taking pain medicine again.  I noticed it doesn't seem to help like before my surgery and I have to take more than I am comfortable with.  2 to 3 every 4 to 5 hours just to keep the pain from getting out of hand.  Am I addicted or becoming tolerant to vicodin?

Answer
James,

When you take pain meds over a long period of time the body becomes tolerant to the meds, talk to your doctor and maybe they just need to change the meds to a different kind. When you are concerned as to whether you are addicted, then you aren't addicted. You don't want to be taking two to three as often as you are because you put too much stress on the liver with that much acetaminophen.

Take Care.
