Subject: Suboxone - discrimination?

Question
Q: In regards to opiate addiction;  if by receiving a treatment with Suboxone administered through a physician or other, would this would affect my medical records and prevent me from receiving treatments for me at a later time? How is this kept confidential or is it at all? What are the consequences to my medical records for doing this?

BTW...thanks for taking the time!

Answer
Adam,

Are you asking me if you can still get narcotic scripts from a doctor if needed in the future? If you are in a hospital or under the care of a physician and need to be given something for pain then you will be. It depends on whether or not you seal your own records or not and it depends on each individual doctor. However, there is a database that shows all scripts written to you and as far as I am aware all doctors can access that if they need to but your medical information from each doctor is confidential unless you say otherwise or there is a medical emergency that says otherwise.
Does that answer your question?
