Question
hi.I have a younger brother that I think he takes tramadol pills, I have found several of them in his room. When I asked, he said they belongs to a friend.till yesterday I found another pills.also he often drinks alcohol, and smokes cigarets.how can I be sure? are there special symptoms or examination can show he is addicted to them?how harmful are they? how can I convince him not to take them? and is it possible to take it in nasal cavity? I appreciate your kind attention & I am sorry for my bad writing spelling because English is not my 1st language.

Answer
Somayeh,

Just about any pill can be ingested by the nasal cavity if crushable and it is NEVER good to take ANY type of medication that is not being given to you by a doctor. You should go to your parents or any other adult that you feel you can trust and talk to them so that you can decide what would be the best way to get your brother to come clean and tell you what he is doing. If they are in his room and he has a history of using other substances then it is probably safe to believe they are his and since he drinks he would benefit from some individual substance abuse counseling or at least and evaluation. Good luck and I hope he gets the help he needs and is safe.
Take care.
