About Adegoke Adeyemo MD Expertise Questions relating to psychiatric problems, including all kinds of substance abuse/chemical dependency issues. I also specialize in mood disorders and anxiety disorders. I am the Clinical Advisor of the (DBSA) Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance Sacramento Chapter. I also specialize in cognitive behavioral therapy, and not just pills, pills, pills.
Experience I have been a psychiatrist for nine years and work in a variety of settings with all sorts of patients. I am not a child psychiatrist so I can give my opinion on child issues, but a child psychiatrist would probably have more practical experience, as I see patients below the age of 18 only once in a while. In the case of chemical dependency, however, I dont believe that age applies. The principles are the same.

Question ok so i have been physically addicted to opiates for about 8 months now, oxycontin, oxycodone, vicodn, methadone. I didint even know i was addicted, i just thought i would stop taking them one day and about 3 days later i got really sick it felt like the flu times ten. After about 5 days i realized that my body was addicted to opiates and that was what was maing me sick, and since i had missed a few days work and had bills to pay i figured i would just get some opiates in my system and it would be ok. That was in the end of November. I have tried t quit twice since then but the pain was too much and i couldnt afford to keep getting sick. now i am tired of this game, i want my life back and i want to be sober, normal, happy again.I am down to 5mg of methaone a day and think in five days i will stop cold turkey. i m hoping that weening myself down will help a little with the withdrawls. In the next five days i am going to try to make enough money to pay two of my bills that are due in two weeks..that way when i start to get sick i can just call in a few days without stressing about my finaces. i am very scared and anxious about this withdrawl process i have been trying to take vitamins daily and drink lots of water. i would like to know if there are anythings i can do to help me with this process, any vitamins or remedys you recomend? the chills are the hardest thing for me is there anything i can do to help that? i already have plans in place to start some kind of group or alone therapy after my detox is over to keep me clean. i am very serious about this and am determined to beat this thing. do you have any advice for me?and how long do these detox usually last?
Answer Hi Nikki,
I hope you are feeling better from the withdrawals. I suggest you look up prior answers of mine regarding opiate addiction. Also you would probably benefit from looking up this website www.suboxone.com.
12 step programs such as AA and NA have the highest success rate so you may want to consider that in addition to the counseling you are planning.
I hope this was helpful. Good luck.
