Addiction to Drugs/weed

Question
Hey
I thoroughly enjoy smoking weed, yet it makes me stupider than i am when i am sober. I smoke to get this on purpose because if i dont i find myself getting frustrated at people's stupidity and by smoking i can detach myself from the silly social norms that people think are true even when they're obviously not. I never intended on being a smoker and it effects my inner child's consciense to see that i do smoke. My friends also smoke heaps and it's hard for me to see a lot of my friends without getting high.
I want to stop but people continue to be stupid. They put on their fancy clothes and pretend to be normal when it's obvious they are not. My mind races when i'm sober and i cant help but feel depressed over the lack of collective intelligence in society. people suck and that bores me so i get high.
is it wrong then for me to get high? it's a way of coping instead of getting a gun and blasting some fools.
I want to stop

Answer
Hey Steve,

Funny, but that is how I feel when I read about American politics (and I am not in america)!  Bunch of idiots, can't see that they are just making the situation worse, cruising around like a bunch of right wing robots.  I guess, what I am trying to say is that there are a lot of people who see the world as you do.

Firstly, if you have read any of my past posts you will know that I subscribe to a philosophy called harm reduction, which acknowledges that people will use drugs, and just tries to reduce the harms assocaited with that use.  That said, I don't condemn you for wanting to smoke pot.  My only concern is that you feel that you need to because of how you feel about others.  And the comment about shooting people is a bit of a concern.

Although the law doesn't agree with me, my opinion would be to do what you want to to.  If you want to cut down, then work on cutting down.  As I said above, there are probably millions of other people who hold the same views as you - and perhaps there are other ways that you can find our low intellect society less annoying.  There are a lot of people who use methods of social disebediance to get their views across - the guys who screws up the bill board posters comes to mind but I can't remember his name!

You said that your mind races when you are straight which is also a bit of a concern.  This could just be normal, and I would never suggest someone get help because they disagree with our society, however if there is more to your situation that just "mind racing", it might be worth speaking to a psych of some description.  You would need to find someone good though!  They can be just as annoying as the rest of society (I know because I am studying to be one)

Hope this helps - let me know if I can answer anything else!

Whatever you do, do it safely
