Question
I didn't really know where to catagorize this question, but O well. I am 13 almost 14 and I'm a girl. My friends and I have been snorting crushed smarties and nerds and pixystix. What are the risks of doing this?

Answer
Hi Samantha,

Tis seems to be a form of addiction, and this can be due to the fact that without doing this snorting, you are not entirely happy. Thus you could have underlying depression or an addictive disorder. This is usually due to hypoglycemia.

Please test yourself with the

The Nutrition-Behavior Inventory Questionnaire (NBI) at:
http://www.hypoglycemia.asn.au/articles/nutrition-behavior_inventory.html

and

The Hypo Quizz at:
http://www.hypoglycemia.org/hypo_test.asp

and if you score above normal, you are likely to have a hypopglycemic syndrome, which could be responsible for the symptoms, and which can be treated by going on a hypoglycemic diet.

and discuss with a Nutritionl Doctor, Clinical Nutritionist or a Nutritional Psychologist. But going on a hypoglycemic diet will often help resolve the problems in most cases.

Please discuss with a school counsellor or your parents.
