Expert: Jurriaan Plesman, Nutritional Psychologist - 10/19/2009
Question im a 22 year old male ive been very addicted to percocet for about 10 months now and i am trying to get clean. Ive been to counseling and have found that drug use is a way that ive learned to deal with my emotions. My problem is that every time i use i feel guilty and in turn i tell my girlfriend who then becomes angry with me. From her anger i feel shame and the urge to use becomes stronger. Its an endless cycle. How can she help me get clean without fueling the fire so to speak?
Answer Hello eric,
Drug addiction is a difficult problem. It is mainly a nutritional illness, and if you understand the biochemical underpinnings of addiction it should enable you to help yourself. Please read:
Drug Addiction is a Nutritional Disorder at:
http://www.hypoglycemia.asn.au/articles/drug_addictions_nutritional_disorder.htm...
and discuss this with a Nutritional Doctor, Clinical Nutritionist or a Nutritional Psychologist, if self-help therapy fails.
