Question
Hello my names Cortney. I had a feeling my fiance was doing drugs again! I asked him about it and of course he said no!so i made him get a drug test, and he did and he got one of those expensive ones that detect every drug!! he took it right in front of me and it said he passed. but 8mths later  he finally told me that he was doing drugs and had been our whole relationship. mostly heroin.  my question is HOW IN THE WORLD DID HE PASS THAT DRUG TEST???

Answer
HI Cortney,

Drug addicts are master manipulators and can use every trick in the book to get hold of their drugs. When I am helping addicts get off drugs I am not concerned about whether or not they are taking drugs, or use drug tests. I rely on their motivation to get off drugs.  I accept what they tell me , unless I have EVIDENCE to the contrary. Besides treatment of drug addiction starts off with treating the underlying causes of drug addiction with withdrawing from drugs as the LAST step. Thus treatment is far more important than people withdrawing from drugs.

I don't expect anybody in treatment to suddenly stop taking drugs. By treating the underlying biochemical abnormality, people will naturally stop taking drugs in the end, although this may take up to a year. See:
