Addiction to Drugs/roxicodone addiction

Question
I have been taking roxicodone for 2 years as prescribed by my doctor.  I do not abuse the drugs and have eliminated oxycontin from my body but I am having problems with the roxicodone.  Original perscription was 30mg pills 2-3, 4-6 times a day.  I have gotten down to 7.5 mg twice a day.  I do have withdrawl issues everyday but want to stop taking.  I asked my Dr. about suboxen but he laughed it off saying I wont need it. I want my life back and have  to live in pain versus taking opiates.  OTC meds do not help me.  What can be used for pain and helping to finally rid myself of this monkey?

Answer
Brian,

Have you asked your doctor for any kind of short term anxiety medications like Xanax or Valium to help with the withdrawal symptoms? Have you discussed the issues with your doctor? It is safer to titrate off the medication slowly and even though it takes months to do this it is better then coming off them cold turkey. I do however commend you for putting in the effort and for being aware of what you take and when. It is difficult to come off medications like opiates when the body becomes dependent. Remember, I am not a doctor though and cannot prescribe but can only help you within my scope.
Good luck.
