Addiction to Drugs/5 Hour energy shot

Question
Hello, I am a safety manager for a steel company located in Little rock,Ar. I have heard some things about this type of enery drink including the 6 hour. I got curious and held a meeting about this drink and asked if anyone had or has been taking this drink. I heard that this drink will show a false positive for Meth/Amp. There was one guy that raised his hand so he was the test subject. the test did come back positive for these type of drinks. Around our area there are also signs posted above the drink" Caution, if you are subject to random drug screen be aware". This goes to prove the theory correct but is there any substantial proof of the ingredients contained that will cause a false test? Thanks, Jason

I have gotten this question before about 5 hour energy.  The factors have to be perfect but yes it can cause a false positive for meth.  But so can NyQuil, nasal sprays and 500 other normal medications.  I have heard that Protienase K causes this false positive.

Well since the words I wrote were unclear I will type them out for you to better understand.  Yes you get a false positive from 5 hour, but not just one.  I included a list of other medications over the counter that will ALSO give a false positive for meth.  I also listed one ingredient in 5 hour that is the culprit for causing a false positive...Protienase K.
The list below my answer is interesting I THOUGHT because again these too can cause a false positive.  If you notice there are some disease that also cause a false positive.
I have been working in this field for a long time and I did give correct, clear and accurate information.  The answer is complicated and I did my best to break it down for you.

Expertise

I will NOT provide information on how to PASS A DRUG TEST SO DO NOT ASK ME!! I can provide information regarding crack addiction, drug user life style, why they do what they do, visual differences between crack and crystal meth, what effects crack has on the body (long term), what crack looks like, what to expect when someone stops/starts using, effects after drug use has stopped, how long it REALLY takes to recover, what family members can expect of their loved one during drug use and recovery process, why recovering addicts sometimes turn to alcohol or pot, how to talk to your children about this drug before they ever touch it. I won't answer obvious questions about how to make or use crack. I won't describe how to make crack pipes but I will help a parents, guardians or family members identify a pipe, paraphernalia and the drug itself. Since pipes can be very sneaky looking and sometimes without a smell I will answer those questions also.

Experience

I spent many years addicted to drugs and have been clean and sober since 2007. I had a $1000 a day habit and spent over $70,000 in one year on crack. Coming off drugs and alcohol was the most difficult thing I have ever done. I also feel extremely blessed in that it was a drug dealer that actually started me on the road to recovery. It is a daily battle that never goes away. Only 3% of the drug population that quit crack (without rehab) actually stays off the drug. I have been clean for more than 4 years. I believe everyone is different regarding treatment and if possible should consult a physician.
