Question
hi i used to smoke cannibis as a way of depression after going through bad things i quit in november of08 as i found out im pregnant my ex partner is using this against me in court and now havin a drug test hair strand they are takin 3 inches iv stayed away for 7 months will my test come back positive or there a chance it come back negative

Answer
Hi Rachel,

Hair tests for cannabis can show up a long time after someone has stopped smoking.  I think that the fact that someone smokes cannabis has nothing to do with their parents, and rather it is about how they look after their child.  Imagine if all of the baby boomers who smoked had their children removed!

If you have stopped, I would ask that perhaps there is a test that can show up more recent abstinence (ie: urine). However, if you are still smoking then this isn't the best option.  The best thing for you to do would be to get some legal advice or representation and present the positives.  I don't know if you realise but the last three presidents of the US have all taken illegal drugs ... this puts you in good company.

I am sorry that your former partner is using this to try to tarnish your name.  The best that you can do is show what a great mother you are.

If there is any more information you would like, let me know.

Stay safe,

Jacqui
