Addiction to Drugs/6 months pregnant and using Vicodin

Question
I am currently 6 months pregnant and have been taking Vicodin every day for about 5 years. I take 5 10/650 daily. I would like to stop. I am worried that if it will affect my baby badly. I was wondering if I took bendryl for a week or so if that would help some of the withdrawl effects?

Answer
Kathleen,

What you take goes directly across the placenta and affects the baby in so many ways. Your baby will be born addicted to narcotics if you keep doing what you are doing now. Especially at the dose you are using and the frequency. It is very dangerous for you and the baby. Have you ever gone without using at all? You would be better off doing medical detox because you are risking not just your life but the baby's and you need to know that if you stay on the path you are on now, when the baby is born they will know and they will have to have it put into the custody of the state. Not a good thing for either of you. I know you want to stop because you are asking for help but what are you willing to do to make sure you are safe and the baby is safe?
I am here for you so please let me help you. What can you do to get help where you live? Are you familiar with any treatment programs there? What can I do to point you in the right direction?
