Addiction to Drugs - my wife and marijuana

Expert: Crystal - 7/6/2009

Question
my wife who is 47 smokes pot alot more than i would like, i have confronted her several times about this and it gets better for a short time and then she starts sneaking around and smokes it without my knowledge she thinks, honestly, i partake occasionally, but it is a daily activity for her and i have told her i donot want to live like that many times, but she seems to continually fall back into the same old rut. i have researched marijuana some and from what i can find it is not physically addictive, however i wanted to know if it is mentally addictive?, and if you had any suggestions as to what i can do to curb her use to an acceptable level?

Answer
There are alot of different ways to approach this but the bottom line is that any substance can be mentally addictive and physically addictive. The body gets used to the substance and craves it. It takes approximately 28 days to build a habit and to break one probably around the same because you need to build new habits and process new choices. It takes life changes and she has to want to stop or it is useless.
How long has she been using?
