Question
QUESTION: Hi,

I recently experimented with high dosages of Ecstasy and marijuana at the same time. Four days after substance use I still feel the short-term after effects of MDMA, and still have very fuzzy vision that marijuana causes me. I am starting to get very afraid, and have read some stories of the same effect. Will my vision stay like this forever? I feel depressed, always willing to cry, freaking out, hard to breath, anxiety, nautious, sore back, and very fuzzy vision. Its starting to scare me, please help me on your advice, I'm positive on going to the hospital soon for psychiatric help.

Thanks,
Sergio

ANSWER: Hi Sergio,

There is a few things I would need to clarify.  HOw often do you use ecstasy and marijuana?  Was it just a one off binge?  The things you are describing are not particularly common, but nevertheless, if you are experiencing these symptoms it is important you seek some help.  I would also want to know if you have experienced these things before you took the ecstasy and marijuana.

It isn't uncommon for people to have a 'come down' after a big night on ecstasy.  This can lead to irritability, anxiety and depression.  Generally, however, this wears off within a few days.  If you are someone who is a little bit prone to anxiety anyway, it may be exaccerbated.

Anyway, the vision, sore back and nausea is a bit concerning to me, and it may be that this is related to the drug use, or perhaps it has nothing to do with it.

If, by the time you get this, you are still experiencing the symptoms, I would suggest that you seek some face to face support.

Let me know how you go,

Stay safe,

Jacqui

QUESTION: I have smoked marijuana for about 6-7 months daily or every second day. I wasn't feeling the high dosages of ecstasy so I smoked some marijuana to for it to kick in. The ecstasy used was only until this past weekend. I sought some help out and said that everything will repair itself. My vision is still blurry. Doctors have told me to wait 4-6 weeks until I seek more help. My vision bothers me the most, but all i can do is be patient and for it to leave.

Thanks you,
Sergio.

Answer
Hey Sergio,

I must admit that I haven't heard of anyone's vision being damaged from marijuana.  I think that you should follow the medical advice that you have had, and if the problem does stay, it could be totally unrelated and perhaps you have an eye problem.  Is it both eyes?

The only drug related vision problem that I have ever come across is related to infections from injecting.  As for the anxiety, this could be a number of things, and I think that everyone can benefit from some relaxation therapy.  There are some good tips on the internet if you google "progressive muscle relaxation".  I know a lot of this stuff sounds a bit kooky, but it does really work!

Take care,

Jacqui
