Question
my friend has been testing positive for benzoids in drug court but has not been taking any type of known benzoids and i wanted to know if methamphetimine may have had another type substance such as ectasy or mixed drug that may be causing this to show positive??? its really driving her crazy. she has done meth but nothing else besides. please educate us if possible.

Answer
Hi Nikki,

I assume you are referring to benzodiazepines which are a class of drugs used for sleep, reduction of anxiety and sometimes as a treatment for seizures.  This includes xanax, valium, mogodon, serepax, etc. I don't think that methamphetmine would show up as benzodiazepines, however there is a theoretical possibility that something like ecstasy in tablet form could include some benzos.

Due to drugs like ecstasy being illegal, there is no way for any quality control to occur.  This means that it is possible that people mix drugs like xanax into the tablet.  However, xanax isn't cheap so I don't know how common it would be for people making an illegal substance by adding an expensive legal one.

Is there any other medication (prescribed or otherwise) that she may have taken?  Let me know and I might be able to investigate further.

Take care and whatever you do, do it safely!
