Addiction to Drugs/Follow up

Question
Peter,
Thanks very much. I do a lot of exercise, and we do eat pretty good, almost no processed food, lots of vegetables, organic when we can (often). What I've already found interesting in your reply was the cognitive exercises! Hadn't thought of that. I just tried one of them 2-3 times before bed and then I dreamed about doing the exercise later in my sleep. So it must have had some effect on my brain already! Thanks for very much,
Max

Answer
Hi Max,

Neuro-cognitive retraining was an idea introduced to me via the following article:

http://www.counselormagazine.com/feature-articles-mainmenu-63/28-researchscienti...

My theory since discovering this particular field of substance use recovery is that the damage occurring to the neuro-cognitive pathways in the brain affect not only motor skills, memory, speed of processing, etc., but the brain circuitry involved in mood state regulation.  I think this may be a "missing link" in our field.  The article referenced above and others like speak of cognitive impacts and how this may affect recovery.

I do neuro-cognitive training frequently to try to stay sharp at 57.  I work around some young people and want to keep up!

If you see some benefit from a concentrated effort in utilizing these exercises, I'd be very interested in your input.  I think you may see a difference.  You may email me at skypoint@juno.com.

All the best,
Peter
