Question
im 33 weeks pregnant and i relapsed i did crack!! im scared that when i deliver it will show and i can lose my new born!! will it show in my system after 4 weeks!! i reed it takes 3 to6 days but some people say it will still show for a month

Answer
Hi Serenity,

I think it is highly unlikely that the drugs would show up in a blood or urine test after four or more weeks.  Crack probably isn't the best thing you could do while pregnant but this late in the pregnancy a one off isn't likely to do any real damage to the baby. However, when you are pregnant you need to make sure you look after your body and your mind.

I am guessing you are under some kind of scrutiny as I can't imagine they routinely drug screen every new mother in Canada.  I hope you are getting enough support, but remember you need to look after the welfare of your baby first. I certainly don't think that just because someone uses illegal drugs they are a bad parent. But, right now and after you give birth you are physically and emotionally vulnerable and need to minimise the intake of any sunstance (including the legal ones - alcohol, cigarettes).

Congratulations on your pregnancy.  Good luck!
