Question
Hello, I am desperate, as all mother's with a drug addict are...My son, is on Parole and is living at our home..He has relapsed several times and of course says that is the last time..We are enabling him, but don't know how to handle getting him our of our home..He goes out for a day or so and then comes back knocking on our door.Says he just wants a shower and rest and then a few days latter he is back out..He is laying in his bed asleep as I write this..Any infomration is appreciated..It is so hard to find a place immediately when you need it..We hate to put him on the street, but it seems as though this is the only thing we can do..We are so very tired and stressed and can't even enjoy life..This has gone on since he was 13 years old.. I believe a restraining order is the only thing we can do at this time and call the police if he shows up at our door..I feel so cruel to have to do this, but I think in the long run I am going to save his life..He will also go back to Prison if he gets in trouble..It really is out of my hands anyway..God is sooo Goood..thanks, Elaine How do you be tough in a loving way?

Answer
Dear Elaine,

Whilst you son is living in you house he will have to abide by the rules set by you and your husband.

Your son is on parole and he is the responsibility of the state or court that has put him on parole..

Please see his Parole Officer and tell him that you want your son out of the house.

Please do not feel guilty as your son has to learn to take responsibility for his drug addiction.

Drug addiction is a treatable disease, but your son has to WANT to take take treatment. If not life real experiences are his therapy. He may need to reach rock bottom before he is ready for treatment.
