Addiction to Drugs/Controll

Question
Dear Sir

Do you believe in 'controlled' substance use? I hear of respectable people who are into cocaine when tey are partying or when they have to deal with a lot of stress (politicians, surgeons, police inspectors). They claim that it doesn't have any influence on their life whatsoever. Can this be true or are they living in an illusion?

Kind regards,

Lynn

Answer
Hi Lynn,
As a drug counsellor and psychotherapist my main experience has been with people who are addicted and want to get off drugs.

The question needs to be asked why would people need or want or be dependent on a drug to enjoy a social gathering?

The resort to chemical happiness usually belies an underlying abnormality or problem.
