-----Question-----
what is the disease of addiction?
-----Answer-----
Thanks for contacting me, I hope I can provide insight.

Basically there are two schools of thought when it comes to addiction.  One that it is a disease and one that its a choice.

The disease of addiction basically states that people are born predisposed to becoming addicts no matter what they do.  They cannot help becoming an addict and it is not their fault.  It is an incurable condition that the person will have to battle for the rest of their lives.

The choice viewpoint says that through peoples choices they can become addicted to a substance.  They can help from becoming an addict by choosing not to partake of a substance.  The fault lies with the person, not a disease.  It it curable through many options.

I hope this helps and feel free to contact me again as to why you asked.

Well, give me the signs and what is going on and I will be able to offer a more helpful analysis of the situation.

There are many, many signs.  It depends on which stage the person is in leading up to the relapse.  I have before me at least 50 signs.

The first and foremost is the person must accomplish isolation to relapse.  Isolation is a required and early symptom.

Others include:  having secrets, breaking commitments, changing goals, super busy, irritable, crisis in money, blaming, depressed, speeding up, binge eating.

There are many more and the above listed were taken from all different stages.

Hope this helps.

Answer
It simply means reverting back to behaviors that you have that are of an addictive nature.

Acting out can be used to describe someone that has gone back to using drugs or alcohol or simply manifests behaviors that lead up to relapse; i.e. breaking commitments.
