Answer
As a retired Probation and parole officer I know how difficult it is to get proper treatment for your son.

It is well known that addicts have hypoglycemia, which is a sugar handling problem. People with hypoglycemia tend to be depressed and they resort to drugs to treat themselves. This aspect is often overlooked at standard drug rehabilitatioin treatment program, which could explain the high failure rate.

One way of handling this is to ask the solicitor or the supervising Probation and Parole Officer handling this case to have your son tested for hypoglycemia.

The test is not very well known among doctors, but is is described at our web site as:

“Testing for Hypoglycemia and How the Doctor can help”

We also have a paper-and-pencil test called the NBI (Search our web site) If he scores high he is likely to be hypoglycemic.

If found to be positive, as I suspect he will, he should be placed on a recognizance to allow him to have treatment for hypoglycemia. This will help him overcome the addiction.

It is also worthwhile to ask the Court to have him placed on Probation with a condition that he accepts drug rehabilitation.

But he MUST be on a hypoglycemic diet if drug treatment is to be successful.

Please familiarizes yourself with the connection  between addiction and hypoglycemia and discuss with a nutritional docto or therapists.
