I am sorry to hear of your daughters addiction. It closely parallels my own daughter, who is now 28 years old. She has been out of dozens and dozens of rehabs, along with psychiatric units and jails. Your path is a difficult one. As Walt said, ultimately, only the addict can choose to change. It is a hard road but many do recover. I have found, in terms of the experience, strength and hope part, that the best thing I could do for my daughter was to get help for myself in learning how to deal with her addiction. And accepting that I, no matter how hard I tried or what support I offered, could change her decisions. Al-Anon along with the group, families anonymous, can provide the tools one needs to realize that we cannot 'fix' their addiction. It is a fine line between love and support, and co-dependence and enabling. May whatever higher power you seek out and believe in comfort you as this unfolds.

I REALIZE THAT YOU WERE GOING THROUGH THIS HORRIBLE ORDEAL IN 2005...........BUT RIGHT NOW I AM DEALING WITH MY DIAGNOSED BIPOLAR 19 YEAR OLD THAT HAS BEEN 'SELF MEDICATING' HERSELF WITH HEROIN INSTEAD OF HER MEDS.  SHE IS NOW IN JAIL IN NY FOR HEROIN CHARGES. AS WELL AS OTHER CHARGES.

#1- HOW DID YOU DEAL WITH REAL LIFE?

#2- DID THINGS FINALLY GET BETTER?

#3= HOW DID YOUR MARRIAGE SURVIVE?

#4- DID YOU ALSO HAVE OTHER CHILDREN THAT ACTED

OUT AND YOU HAD PROBLEMS WITH?

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO EMAIL ME.  YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND COURSE OF ACTION IS SOMETHING THAT I WILL TAKE TO HEART.  THANK YOU.

Expertise

You don`t have to be sick to get better. Each of us, especially those trying to recover from addiction to alcohol or drugs, face daily `problems`. Our struggle to rise above these situations often seems endless or impossible. Often, the answer is as close as sharing your problem with another. For more than twenty five years I have been involved in a continuing program of helping others ( and myself ) grow. Confidentiality respected always.

Experience

More than 25 years of hands on experience. Various government and private training programs. Learning to live, drug and alcohol free, one day at a time is my greatest accomplishment.
