Question
Hi i'm wanting to know if addiction can be genteic. I beleive that it is but i know others think otherwise, do you think that you could help me?

Answer
Hello Elmo,

Yes addiction has a genetic component and several genes have been isolated contributing to addiction. But a genetic predisposition needs something to trigger it into an active form. Thus if we have a genetic predisposition to become an alcoholic, then drinking alcohol may be a trigger.

I believe that people who have a tendency to become addicted have also a diabetic gene.

But knowing about goes has little application to the treatment of addiction. Genes can be beaten with the right treatment.

‘Most addicted people have been found to be hypoglycemic (this can also be inherited) and the treatment for this is going on a hypoglycemic diet. Thus the first step in the treatment of addiction is going on a hypoglycemic diet.

The reasons for this is rather more complicated but it has bee explained at our web site.
