Question My son has recently been prescribed Darvocet N 100 for back pain and then Lortab 7.5 for hurting his wrist. He takes restoril at night for sleep disorder. Can these medications make a drug test positive for oxycodon or oxycontin? I'm not sure which it was. Thanks for your help. Nancy
Answer Nancy
The answer is yes. Both the Darvocet and the Lortab contain synthetic opiates and would show up as narcotics on a urine or blood test. This would include all all narcotic poain relievers including oxycontin and oxycodone as well as heroin or codiene. Some tests look at all these drugs as a class; narcotics or opiates, while others are sensitive enough to identify the individual drugs them selves. For most purposes the broader range of just showing the class of drugs is enough.
They would show these results for 48-72 hours by which time all these substances would have been eliminated by the body.
