Addiction to Drugs - xanax withdrawal

Expert: Mary - 11/28/2006

Question
I have been taking xanax 1mg for about 7 years.  I use it to sleep. I take one at bedtime.  I have gone off xanax cold turkey and am feeling terrible. I am into 15 days off of xanax.  I feel awful.  Will this feeing go away soon?

Answer
dear Kim-you should be feeling better soon. if you were really only taking 1 mg only per day.
You should never go off any medication without doctor's knowledge supervision. You can die form xanax withdrawal-have seizures if you are taking a lot and suddenly stop.
usually the 2 week period is the roughest. it should get better soon.  try to find a therapist to talk to to help you sort out the feelings of nervousness or anxiety.
good luck
Mary
