Question Hello, photos used in pagemaker need to be 300 dpi or better for printing. If I have a 87" x 62" document size at 72 dpi 2041 x 1920 pixel size photo (it only needs to be 2"x4" in the doc.) that when placed in my PM doc. it comes to 1476K. Can I go back into Photoshop and change the resolution to 300 and shrink the size of the photo. What is the rule of thumb? Thank you
Answer Hi Yvonne,
If you have Photoshop you can reduce the size of your photo to a reasonable size.
To safely resize an image, go to Image >> Image Size.. to bring up the image size window. Uncheck resample image. Change the resolution to 300 pixels per inch. This will change your resolution from 72 dpi to 300 dpi without changing the file size, just the pixel density. You'll notice that the physical dimensions (document size width and height) of the image become smaller but the pixel dimension and memory required stay the same.
To change the size of the image to the size you need check resample image and reduce the document size to what you want.
In Pagemaker you never want to include entire file in the document but link to the picture. This will keep your document size down and if you make any changes to the picture, you can just update the link.
Hope this helps,
