Question
QUESTION: Hi Glen,
For my job I have to complete several forms on line & much of the written material is a repeat of similar words.
I use to be able to just type the beginning of each repeated word & it would automatically fill in the rest of the word, but for some reason, it does do it anymore.
I tried the edit>preferences>auto-complete someone suggested, but it still does work !
I need your help as soon as you can, it's taken me hours, just to complete the forms !!
Thanks !!
John

ANSWER: Hi John,

Unfortunately, the auto-fill function is on your browser and the auto fill data is stored in your browsers cache.
If you have recently switched or upgraded your browser this cache may have been deleted. Internet caches are routinely emptied in many maintenance programs as well.

Try different browsers and make sure in the preferences that auto-fill is on and clear cache is off.

Alternately, you can have the repeated text in notepad on your desktop and use copy/paste until you get your browsers retrained.

Hope this helps,
Glen Demers

QUESTION: Thanks Glen,
By browser I assume you mean like Internet explorer ?
I went to tools>internet options>contents>autocompete>settings &  I checked all the boxes;
web addresses
forms
user names/passwords
prompt me to save passwords
& I clicked ok, still unable to get auto-complete to work !
I just I need more help, but no too technical, as I am a computer dummy !
John

Answer
Hi John,

Internet Explorer is good for saving names and passwords but, unfortunately, not much else. I would recommend Firefox, which is better at autofill or you can add the google toolbar to Internet Explorer or Firefox and use it's auto fill features.
The toolbar is available here:
http://toolbar.google.com/

Just make sure you download the correct version and follow the instruction for installing it. Once it's installed you can click on the Google button and go to options, click on the autofill tab and fill in the form - your name, address etc. Then google will autofill any internet forms you have.

Sometimes it won't work because the forms creator didn't follow industry standards for creating forms and naming the forms fields, but for the most part it'll save you lot's of time.

Good Luck,
Glen Demers
