Adobe Acrobat/prepress printing accurate pantone colors

Question
ha ha, like my subject? i know it's nearly impossible to print perfect pantone matches, but i'd like to help out my workplace since they really don't know anything about colors. I know just about all the basics of colors, the RGB CMYK stuff, lighting, etc etc, what I don't understand is how to set up my computer to be calibrated correctly, and have that calibrated to match my printer more accurately for a better match. I am using a MacOSX version 10.3.9 (but also have access to a brand new MAC) I am working with adobe Illustrator CS2 and I am printing on the Mimaki JF1630. Really any info on setting up a color profile for the printer and syncing it with my computer would do a tone of good. if you can help me? or recommend someone?

Answer
Hi Nancy,

For this issue there are many products available to aid you in setting up color profiles and calibrating your system.

One place to start is with your printers manufacturer, Mimaki. You may have a profile already on disk or you can find the most recent color profile on their website here:

In addition to the printer profile you will need to establish a monitor profile as well. This link has some more in-depth information on this along with several links for profile creation and calibration.
