Question
Hello Ken,
I created a business card in a Broderbund Creator, copied it a pasted it on a MS paint file and sent it in to be printed.  They told me the res. was only 90 something dpi and need to be at least 300.  How can I solve this problem?

Answer
Hi Scott,

There might be a way to export your business card from the Broderbund software as a pdf or even a high quality jpg, tif or eps. Look at your save as options or if there is an export option in any of the menus or help section. If it will export a pdf try to change its settings to give the highest quality possible. If there are any options to set downsampling or compression, set them to none.

One of the biggest problems with software such as the Broderbund & MS paint is that they are not designed with the idea that the user is going to have something printed professionally. The graphics libraries and clip art as well as effects are designed for your desktop printer or web communication, most of them are unfortunately low resolution by printing standards.

The other option is to start over, using graphics software designed for printing and graphics that are of high resolution (300 dpi) or vector graphics which are resolution independent.

Take a look at our site at:

Here you will find links to further information that covers everything from resolution to file set up and software tips.
