Adobe Acrobat/Editable PSD to PDF Cv

Question
Hello Mr. Black,
As more and more companies are preferring to have people apply for jobs online (through their own websites) and the preferred format of an application form to be submitted is in the format of a PDF for all the obvious reason ( one being that with the embedding of flash) cv's can become an interactive experiences for the employer .

I was just wondering is it possible for me to create a CV in Photoshop and convert it into and editable PDF which can have content added to it later.

Answer
Hi Ciaran,

If you are using Photoshop CS 4, the most recent version, it will allow you to Preserve Photoshop Editing Capabilities as an option when saving as a Photoshop PDF file. This way you can re-open the file using CS 4 (earlier versions do not work this way) and make edits that way.

Typically in earlier versions your file becomes flattened and rasterized when creating a pdf, thus making the file un-editable.

You could also import your files into a layout program such as Indesign and make additions, although not changes.

If you have created your pdf in Illustrator or Indesign, the text should remain editable in your pdf.
But, this will only be the case with the newest version of Photoshop, all others will not be editable.

Another method you may want to consider is keeping a working version of your file with live fonts and layers intact as a .psd, so you can go back to it later for editing or updating.

Thanks,

Ken Black
