Adobe Acrobat/PDF Converted
Expert: Ken Black - 7/9/2010
QuestionQUESTION: Hello Ken Black!
I have a file that is the PDF File and its fonts are not created to outline yet.
Now I want to open it in my AI CS3, so I open it Adobe Acrobate Professional 7 and save it as an EPS File. After that, I start opening it in AI CS3 and then all the fonts are not automatically created to outlines. I got the error fonts in my file.
Please let me know how to save to solve this.
Help...Help...Help....
I please thank you very much for all your valuable answers to me.
Yours sincerely,
ANSWER: You need to make sure the fonts are embedded in the pdf file from the application that created it for this to work.
In the save as settings in Acrobat for Encapsulated Postcript (eps) choose Binary in the General section. This allows you to choose an action for embedded font inclusion. Set this to All Embedded fonts. In the Transparency Flattening section check the Convert All Text to Outlines.
Once saved, your text should be all outlines.
I have attached a screen shot of these settings.
Thanks,
Ken Black

QUESTION: Hello, Ken Black!
I don't understand about one of your explanations. It's "You need to make sure the fonts are embedded in the pdf file from the application that created it for this to work".
You mean if the texts are not yet created to outline before printing as PDF File, I can open the PDF but can't save it as EPS with automatically being created outlines when opening it in AI CS3. Is it right?
I was following your techniques and it can't be automatically converted to outlines when opening in AI CS3.
The details I can give you now is that the PDF File I got is printed from the "answering and question" reply from all the experts.
I feel that all the texts in the answers from all the experts are not converted to outlines yet.
If so, could I have a special techinque to solve it?
Another question is "could I change the colors of the texts in the PDF File that is opened in Adobe Acrobat Professional 7"?
Sorry for long questions and insufficient understanding and keeping you busy!
I please thank you very much and it's very kind of you to answer to my questions and provide me with more important methods.
I am looking forward to all your replies!
Yours sincerely,
SAMNANG
AnswerSam,
What I was referring to about fonts being embedded or not is application settings when creating a pdf from, say, Microsoft Word for example or if you are printing the screen from a web browser your pdf settings in your print options.
In some browsers the font will be the default system font you have on your system. If Acrobat does not see the font it will not create the outlines. And if it is a system font, such as Times New Roman on a pc, licensing will not allow you to embed or turn it into outlines.
You may need to use a font that is not a standard MS system font if this is the case.
I have attempted to emulate your problem on both the mac and pc and can embed and create outlines successfully on both using the previous methods.
Try changing the browsers display font to one that is not a licensed system font.
Thanks,
Ken Black
